Assault Rifles and the Children of Connecticut...

Last night I wrote a rather lengthy post about some phone calls we had received about getting an assault rifle before they couldn't be bought.  It was what I felt in my heart, but the calls came from people I love and I didn't want to hurt them so I removed it.

Yes, I still believe that assault rifles are horrible, there is no need for them except to be owned by police and the military.  I will never feel any different.

Yes, I'm still extremely sorry that the parents of these children have to watch the news and know that people are going out and hoarding the very guns that killed their wonderful kids.  Yes, I'm still extremely sad.

Thanks to all of you who sent me messages asking why I removed the post and telling me that you thought it was well written.

And yes, I'm still VERY sorry...

Jodi, I agree. I will never change my opinion either. I am so, so sad for these parents. There are no words.

There is NO reason for civilians to have assault or semi-automatic assault rifles. (as you can see, I don't know what they're called). They are meant only for killing people and we are not meant to do that.
So, no more selling them , nor having them.
I didn't see your blog, and wish I had. You always express yourself well.

I just read this Twitter quote literally 2 minutes ago, and it applies perfectly:

@ANNELAMOTT
You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should've behaved better.

I still have your back Jodi. I am a proud, gun owning outdoorsman and veteran Police Officer, which makes my opinion kinda off-beat. My very worst work related nightmare would be to try to fight against a person hellbent on killing that has a military grade assault rifle like these. I would have very little chance of "winning." Now that my precious 2nd son is an aspiring Wildlife Law Officer, I am even more against assault weapons as it's not even imaginable to think of him in same terrible position! Like I said, those guns are for soldiers in war and great for defending our country, but not for civilians! I can never come out openly of course in such a politically charged environment. My statement regarding your blog still stands!
