The inversion in Boise has been terrible. Overcast/fog every day for the last two weeks. So Linda and I decided to head up north to Garden Valley where we grew up and try cross country skiing for the first time. They have a wonderful course set up on the golf course at Terrace Lakes and they loan you the equipment so it doesn't cost anything. The snow was basically solid ice - so bad in fact, the groomer can't even groom it. They said the snow was terrible for beginners, like landing on concrete when you fall (and I can attest to that as the truth!), but the weather was wonderful and we skied for an hour and had a great time. Definitely something I want to do again.
Linda in the "tuck" position. I made her do that, just 'cause I think that's something real skiers do...
Linda just looks like a ski bunny...
I, however, look like a hillbilly...
One of the three times I bit it. Of course, I went MUCH faster than Linda did, so of course, I fell more often...
Then we drove out the South Fork of the Payette to the Ranger Station to look at deer...
Home... Oh how I miss this house. Such wonderful memories. What I would have given to have been able to have raised my kids in the place I grew up. I was so fortunate - it's something I'll never take for granted...
We had four elk run across the road in front of us as we headed up Alder Creek to our old home. They were too far up and in the trees to get pictures but it was an awesome day...
Once we got back on the hill toward home, we hit the inversion/fog and frostline. I had to take a picture of frost on the weeds...
I put all the photos from my camera on my facebook page
ReplyDeletepowder *is* much nicer to ski in (and a lot easier to fall in - which I do alot of when I x-c ski), but it still looks like you had way too much fun. And to get to see the wildlife on the way home: woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteI just hope you're not too black and blue tomorrow. :)
SO CUTE!! You guys look great and it looks like you had so much fun!!! What a gorgeous day to get out and do this.
ReplyDeleteThe house looks exactly the same! It's never even been repainted a different color. I can't believe you dorks got that close and didn't go to the door. LOOOOOSERS!!! ;)
So glad you went up there and had such a fun day together. You both needed that.
PS. Jod, I LOOOVE your new profile picture!!! So cute!!

ReplyDeleteI bet you guys will have sore muscles today!!!
Actually, it wasn't out of my "bubble" at all! I've driven that road hundreds of times and it was like going "home again". I loved it!
ReplyDeleteHooray, you got the info back up to the top and , me too, I love your new picture. A perfect picture !
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you girls got to do that----made the effort to do that. And that the day was so beautiful.
That house does hold a lot of sweet memories, lots of funny ones too. The dead owl that suddenly flew around the rooms. The racoon that latched on to your Dad's big toe. and so many more.
I LOVED living there in the woods.
Ahhh....look at the blue sky in those pictures! I haven't seen that for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a terrific time!
ya, I LOOOVE that picture too. You look so happy! Where is that pic from???
ReplyDeleteThe picture is from Kate's wedding. That's her arm down there in the left side. It's the only decent picture I've had taken in years so I cut myself out of it!
